Dale McDowell Wins Spring Shootout at Smoky Mountain

April 2nd, 2017 - With both Shane McDowell and Ahnna Parkhurst in action, Shane McDowell Racing visited Boyd’s Speedway (Ringgold, Georgia) on Friday evening. Battling in a field of 32 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) entries, McDowell locked his spot into the opening night feature with a 3rd place finish in his heat. Starting in 9th, Dale jumped up two positions in the 50-lapper recording a 7th place finish. Timing in ninth fastest overall in qualifying, Parkhurst earned the 9th-starting position for the A-Main. Moving up two spots, Ahnna reeled in a 7th place finish.

The following night both drivers headed Smoky Mountain Speedway (Maryville, Tennessee) for the unsanctioned Spring Shootout. Laying down the second fastest time overall in qualifying, McDowell earned the pole position for the feature after the redraw. Leading the entire distance of the 50-lap A-Main, Dale McDowell captured his first victory of the season topping Donald McIntosh, Chris Ferguson, Brandon Overton, and Michael Chilton. During the same night in the 602 division, Parkhurst rallied from the tail of her heat to place 6th. Starting in 12th for the feature, Ahnna jumped up five positions reeling in a 5th place finish. After laying down the fourth fastest time in the 604 division, Parkhurst slipped up in the beginning of the feature sending her to the tail. Battling from the back of the pack, Ahnna Parkhurst wheeled her way to a 3rd place spot.

On Sunday Dale returned with the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) at Duck River Raceway Park (Wheel, Tennessee) for the $10,000 top prize. Following the fastest time overall in his group, Dale recorded a 5th place finish in his heat race positioning him 15th on the starting grid for the feature. Breaking into the Top 10, McDowell improved six positions in the 50-lap affair registering a 9th place finish.
